It’s Monday, my Brain Feels Tired Already and I Love Mugs

Leave a comment Standard

Ha! Those are all true things. It is only noon(ish) on Monday and I am off work today and somehow my brain already feels a bit tired. Isn’t that sad? I think Mondays have some kind of pull on a person – even when you aren’t at work, Mondays just seem to be slightly less than appealing in some way. I have the notion that Mondays are that way because you look at all the things you need to accomplish before the weekend starts and at times it can be a bit daunting…

Although some weeks that also invigorates me, so perhaps I’m a wee bit schizophrenic where Mondays are concerned. Suffice it to say, I feel like Mondays will always be the least liked day of the week. Stinks for you Monday.

One of the aforementioned mugs – a souvenir from my parent’s 32nd anniversary trip.

Something I never intended to collect but I’ve apparently done without thinking on it? Mugs. I never realized until it came time for me to pack up my life and move just how many mugs I actually owned. The answer is that I own so many! I don’t say too many because I love mugs, I really do. I also love drinking coffee (oooh, I love it so much) and hot chocolate and I am a new fan of hot tea, so I guess when you are a drinker of all things warm and toasty, you can never have too many mugs. I have added three to my collection since I moved to Virginia…two of those in this past week. Wow.

A Panera Pumpkin cookie for an after dinner treat on Monday night!

I love Winchester & apparently Southern Living does too! I’ve only lived here about 5 months but I can actually claim I’ve been to the places in the first three paragraphs!

Desperate for a bite of something sweet on Tuesday night – bless him!

A sweet little Pumpkin ready to face the chilly October breezes after Wednesday night Bible study!

Gorgeous blue skies on Thursday – this may be my favorite color of blue!

Up before sunrise on Friday morning – which isn’t hard since sunrise isn’t until 7:30!

I guess the week passed in a rush of work and home, work and home…I told a friend earlier today that I felt like this past week had just flown by and I realized as I typed it that I meant that; I wasn’t just saying it in the way people offhandedly make that comment. I have so few pictures from the past week because I feel like I was hopping to and fro, always doing something. I’m fairly certain that isn’t really the case but that is how it feels. The truth is more than likely that I fell into a deep book reading hole and that consumed hours of my time. It happens!

Sweet Wild Orange Tea to drink while watching The Best of Me on Friday night.

I spent Friday and Saturday morning working – Friday night my Mom and I rediscovered Pier One – If I’m being honest, I somehow got the notion in my head that Pier One had gone out of business several years ago. I don’t know why I thought this because I see the commercials all the time. I’m nuts I guess. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve thought that…or been told it. Ha-ha! I probably didn’t need to know Pier One was still a thing, they have way too many things that I could buy…if I had A) money and B) a house to put them in. All in good time, I suppose. My Mom and I also went to see The Best of Me; I had read the book it was based on, she had not. Let’s just say she wasn’t thrilled with how some aspects of the movie turned out.

My parents picked apples on Saturday morning and I arrived home just in time to see my Mom shoving handfuls of apples into a homemade pie crust. She assured us that even though it was piled high, it would cook down and be just fine. I don’t know how she wrangled the top onto it, but I do know that the finished product was delicious and was the perfect celebratory snack after watching State beat Kentucky. I tell you though, being a State fan is always a white knuckle ride – my blood pressure is up from the time they take the field until the clock finally stops. That being said, they’re still holding strong at #1 and I’m glad to be a bulldog!

Oh my – look at that pie!

Watson says “help someone…this woman in here keeps ringing this strange bell & I do not like it!”
Sunday morning baby snuggles – thank goodness for this little peach, she kept me warm in church, ha-ha!

I took my sweet parents out for a belated anniversary lunch – aren’t they precious?

We spent Sunday afternoon at the Arboretum – if I keep going at the rate I have been, people are going to start to recognize me! My Dad wanted some really nice Autumn color pictures and I knew the Ginkgo grove at the Arboretum was absolutely beautiful…so with just a wee bit of convincing, we climbed into the car and headed up the road! We were not disappointed (at least I certainly wasn’t) as the trees had all turned a glorious shade of yellow – but we also discovered that while Ginkgo trees are absolutely beautiful, they smell like poop! So, maybe plant those not as close to your house…

Possible Christmas card photo? I don’t know….we’ll see.

Watson says “will you please stop making me pose for pictures…there are things I need to sniff…”

Color everywhere – even my shoes were feeling very Autumnal!

Quite possibly the best mug ever!

Our last stop on the Sunday afternoon outing was an old school house that has been turned into an antiques store. Inside this lovely little school house, my Dad hit the mug jackpot – he found a mug that had my dog’s mug on it. I mean, how perfect is that? It was only $2 and so of course, I had to have it. I’m fairly certain I own about 35 mugs at this point, but when you’ve got that many…what is one more, right? Watson wasn’t nearly as impressed as we were but that’s fine, hes goofy like that.

So – another week come and gone. October has only one week left; really just five day, how in the world did this month pass so quickly? Oh well, however that happened I plan to enjoy the last five days of October and that means I’d better get off the computer and get busy doing other things. Till next time, have a happy week!

Blast from the Past – Part the Last

Finally – we reach the end. I know, aren’t you excited? I guess I’m surprised because for the most part it seems like a lot of my answers have stayed the same. I guess that means I’m fairly certain of who I am as a person, so that’s neat. Who knows…maybe I’ll try this again in 2019 and see what has changed and what has stayed the same!

85. WHAT IS YOUR HAIR COLOR?
Brunette

– I’m a brunette, although depending on how frequently I get my hair done I can also have some Auburn in there too. I like adding in that little glint of red!

86. EYE COLOR?
Hazel

– Yes, still a hazel eyed girl.

87. SHOE SIZE?
A nine

88. FAVORITE FAST FOOD PLACE?

89. FAVORITE RESTAURANT?
Olive Garden or Chili’s

– I still love Olive Garden and Chili’s…but we recently ate at Longhorn Steakhouse and it was delicious! I would also like to go back to a restaurant in one of the nearby towns; Flint Hill Public House. We ate there last year and I really enjoyed it; I’d like to try it again.

No thank you!

– Nope, not at all.

– Definitely relationships; I absolutely don’t do one night stands.

97. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU BOUGHT?
Some BOPS last night, so good!

98. WOULD YOU EVER BE A HOUSEWIFE?
Sure, that would be wonderful! My dream job, to be a Mommy.

– I’d love to! Reference the above answer; it hasn’t changed.

99. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING?
206 Bones, by Kathy Reichs

100. DESCRIBE YOUR LOVE LIFE:
What love life, haha?

So, while some things have changed there are a lot of things that are very much the same. Life is nothing more than one change after the other but it’s lovely to be able to just roll with the changes. It’s also nice to see that I apparently know myself quite well as a person. Check back in another five years (okay…hopefully you check in more often than that) and we’ll see if things have changed!

Blast from the Past – Part Three

Leave a comment Standard

Oh happy day, I know you’ve been waiting with baited breath…so, not to disappoint, without further ado here is part three of the blast from the past!

51. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
Turkey!

– I certainly still love a good turkey sandwich!

52. ANY BAD HABITS?
Biting my nails, playing with my hair…

– I actually don’t bite my nails too much anymore (so glad I have moved past that habit) but I do still tend to play with my hair a lot. I also use the word “like” a wee bit too often.

53. ARE YOU A JEALOUS PERSON?
I can be, but I think everyone is at some point…

– Is being possessive of time and attention being jealous? Just kidding, yes I can get jealous at times but it doesn’t happen too often.

54. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
Sure, I’m pretty cool!

– Certainly! I think I’m a great person and I make a pretty awesome friend also.

55. DO YOU AGREE WITH FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS?
I used to, but I don’t think it’s the best idea. Someone will inevitably get hurt. And a relationship should be built on more than the physical.

– I don’t. Not at all. I don’t think building any relationship on physical gratification is ever a good idea.

56. DO LOOKS MATTER?
Looks don’t matter if a person has a horrible personality

60. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A CHILD?
Probably a baby doll or something, nothing really stands out…

– Oh man, I don’t know how I didn’t think of this the last time I did this! When I was three, I received a Disney World playset for Christmas and I absolutely loved that thing! I still have it boxed up somewhere and one day I plan to whip it out for my children because it was and still is awesome!

61. HOW MANY NUMBERS ARE IN YOUR CELL PHONE?
Only about 30-35, not a ton.

– I’m not sure, more than 50 at this point.

62. WERE YOU A FAN OF BARNEY AS A LITTLE KID?
Nope-never ever

– Not even a little bit. I actually used to get in trouble for singing “I hate you, you hate me, let’s tie Barney to a tree” and making my little sister upset. Whoops. Sorry Lindsey.

63. Do you use sarcasm?
Way too much, haha!

– I am fluent in sarcasm. I speak it as a second language and I’m probably much too proud of that.

65. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUY/GIRL?
Christian, personable, kind, makes me laugh, cute

– A Christian man who has a heart for God and will be a spiritual leader. I think if you’ve got that box checked, all the other things will line up. It wouldn’t hurt if he was attractive, kind, liked kids and had a good sense of humor.

66. WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES?
Nat, Noodles, Spikenard

– Nat, Noodles, Lindsey calls me Spikenard, my Mom sometimes calls me Shealy Nat (instead of Natalie Shea)…

68. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW?
I have 3 favorites-Bones, Smallville & How I Met Your Mother

– Well, How I Met Your Mother ended (and crushed my heart) and Smallville has also ended. I still love watching Bones but I also especially love….GAME OF THRONES! Sleepy Hollow is a favorite too!

69. WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR ENEMIES?
Kill them with kindness.

– I still believe this but I learned very well in the past three years that it is easier said than done.

70. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR?
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

– Oh man, I do still love some good Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough but I’ve also had a Black Raspberry Vanilla with chocolate chunks and that is absolutely divine.

71. DO YOU HAVE ALL YOUR FINGERS AND TOES?
I certainly do!

– Yes, all present and accounted for.

72. DO YOU HAVE A COMPUTER IN YOUR ROOM?
I sure do!

– I don’t…but I have a tablet and that’s like a small computer. Of course, my cell phone (which is always with me) is like a small computer too!

73. PLANS FOR TONIGHT?
Just do whatever, no major plans.

– I’m going to the movies with my Mom…at the Alamo!

74. WHERE DO YOU WANT TO LIVE WHEN YOU ARE OLDER?
Not in Mississippi, I know that much!

– Ha-ha, and this has changed because I don’t live in Mississippi anymore! I now live in Northern Virginia and I love it. I could stay here for a good long time and have no complaints.

75. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS?
It doesn’t really matter to me..

– Since this is a blog post, it would be odd. However, I guess someone might see them and make their own post based on the questions.

The last post…tomorrow…

A Jack Russell Terrier

Six

I don’t really think so….

– I have not. Ever. And I strangely don’t feel tempted to try it out.

39. DO YOU THINK EVERYONE OUT THERE HAS A SOUL MATE?
Sure

– I don’t know if I still think this…at least not in the romantic sense. I believe someone’s soul mate can be a best friend, a sibling and for some people, their true love. I think that just because you don’t have a significant other, you can still have found your soul mate. I also don’t think a person’s true love also has to be their soul mate.

40. WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE YOU FILLED THIS OUT?
Commenting on pictures

– Drinking coffee and watching American Horror Story.

41. HAVE YOU EVER HAD SURGERY?
I haven’t

– I still haven’t, although I almost had Lasik. That’s a long story for another time but to make a long story short, Valium does not calm me down…it makes me extremely hyper. Ha-ha!

42. WHAT DO YOU GET COMPLIMENTED ABOUT MOST?
My smile

– I still get compliments on my smile but people also seem to (in recent months) compliment me on my “bubbly” personality and I’m often told I’m pretty funny.

43. HAVE YOU EVER HAD BRACES?
Yep, for three long years…

– Duh, no change to this answer. I probably should have been more vigilant about wearing my retainer…

44. WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY?
My birthday is a long way away…don’t really know

– My birthday was just 17 days ago; it’s probably a little early to start planning for the next one. I still want to go to the UK…but I’m told that is happening in Spring 2016, so that’s all I can think of.

45. HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU WANT AND THEIR NAMES?
Three, maybe four. I like the names Clark, Michaela & Zoey

– I still like the number three. I also still like the names Michaela and Clark. Zoey isn’t as prominent in my mind as a name anymore.

46. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
Yep-Natalie Wood

– This also hasn’t changed. Still Natalie. 🙂

47. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST TURN OFF OF THE OPPOSITE/SAME SEX?
Men that think too highly of themselves, don’t be self-absorbed!

– Oh, this hasn’t changed much either. I hate cocky people! Hate is maybe a strong word; I strongly dislike cocky people and I also can’t handle stupidity.

48. WHAT IS ONE THING YOU LIKE(D) ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL?
I had fun with my friends, I liked that.

– I can’t say I remember oodles of things I liked about high school…but I guess the one thing I liked was the time I was able to spend with my friends. Two of my very best friends; two people that I still am able to have as best friends are people from high school. So, I like that.

49. WHAT KIND OF SHAMPOO DO YOU USE?
Either Pantene or Herbal Essences

– Pantene, always and forever Pantene.

50. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
I do like my handwriting, it’s pretty cute

– I do like my handwriting still; I really like my cursive writing.

Part Three…Coming Up Shortly…

Blast from the Past – Part One

Leave a comment Standard

So – I was just poking around on Facebook last night…like you do…and I stumbled upon this 100 Questions post that I did almost literally 5 years ago! I first answered all these questions and posted it to my Notes section of Facebook (does anyone even use that function of Facebook anymore???) on October 25th, 2009! I didn’t take the time to fully read through it but I thought I’d take the post from Facebook to here and see if any of my answers have changed.

I’m doing this in four parts because no one wants to read a post that is 100 questions long – am I right?

Here we go…100 Things about Me: 2009 versus 2014

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
Let’s see, I have one on my forehead, above my left eye-I was jumping around on my Grandma’s bed when I was 6 & I smacked my head on the windowsill. Ouch!

– Obviously this hasn’t changed. Still there, still epic.

2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
Pictures that match my room, a mirror, a cross…

– A giant sheet of Snoopy trading cards printed into a huge picture, my calendar, an Egyptian hieroglyph picture and a Roman plate…

3. DO YOU SNORE, GRIND YOUR TEETH, OR TALK IN YOUR SLEEP?
I don’t do any of those things, My Mom tells me that I breathe really heavy when I am asleep.

– Nope. Still just a deep breather.

4. WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
I am into just about anything although I am not usually a fan of country or rap.

– I listen to a lot of instrumental music (think soundtracks) as well as Christian music since I’ve found a K-Love station that comes in really well here in Virginia. I still don’t really care for country (unless it’s Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum or Hunter Hayes) and I really don’t like rap.

5. WHAT TIME WERE YOU BORN?
Um, not certain…Mom?

– Around 8:30 in the morning…I think. Again, my Mom can verify this, ha-ha!

6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
More than anything, I would like to find that special someone

– Yep, I’d still really like that too. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

7. WHAT DO YOU MISS?
I miss my Papaw-I also miss my little sister, but she is just a plane ride away.

– I miss my Papaw still. I also miss my Pops, who passed away last August. I also miss my sister not living right across the hall from me; one of the joys of being an adult. 🙂

8. WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION(S)?
My photo albums, they contain all my memories.

– I do love my photo albums still but I have a piece or two of jewelry that I hold dear. I also love my books. Love them.

9. HOW TALL ARE YOU?
5’5″

– Yeah…that hasn’t changed. At all. I’m still a little shorty.

10. DO YOU GET CLAUSTROPHOBIC?
Nah, not really. I do have personal space issues though, ha ha.

– Claustrophobic…no. Acrophobic? Most definitely. Still don’t like people getting all up in my business.

11. DO YOU GET SCARED IN THE DARK?
When it is pitch black, for sure!

– Oh yes, I don’t like the dark so much.

12. THE LAST PERSON TO MAKE YOU CRY?
Probably my sister, but in a good way-not a bad way

– A friend; in a way that my feelings were hurt. Almost certainly not intentional but it still stung a bit.

13. WHAT’S YOUR WORST FEAR?
Being alone

– Still the same, being alone. As in, ending up alone.

14. WHAT KIND OF HAIR/EYE COLOR DO YOU LIKE ON THE PREFERRED SEX?
I don’t really have a preference, I just like boys!

– I’m not picky but red heads are kind of cute. Then again, so are blonds. Ha-ha!

15. WHERE CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF PROPOSING?
I don’t plan to propose-I plan to be proposed to one day.

– Ditto to the above answer.

16. COFFEE OR ENERGY DRINK?
Coffee

– Always coffee, every morning coffee. More than one cup. Never an energy drink; I had a Red Bull addiction for about 2 months the last semester of college but no thanks. None of that anymore.

17. FAVORITE PIZZA TOPPING?
Cheese, lots of cheese

– Oh, still cheese. I also really love a good BBQ pizza. Lots of chicken, cheese and BBQ sauce!

18. IF YOU COULD EAT ANYTHING RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Wow, I dunno…for some reason, turkey sounds really good. But like, Thanksgiving turkey.

– I am; at present, not even remotely hungry. I can’t think of anything I just really want to eat. This may have more to do with feeling less than 100% right now, so I have no appetite. I’m sure that will change. It always does.

19. FAVORITE COLOR OF ALL TIME?
Blue

– Blue! Always Blue!

20. HAVE YOU EVER EATEN A GOLDFISH?
Ew, no.

– Still ew. Still no. Always no.

21. WHAT WAS THE FIRST MEANINGFUL GIFT YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
Probably the pearls I got for my 16th birthday from my parents

– Pearls. Of course; that hasn’t changed.

22. DO YOU HAVE A CRUSH?
Oh, I have a crush on lots of people. Tom Welling is nice, so is David Boreanaz…

– I have no crushes on “real” people that I know, ha-ha. I do think Benedict Cumberbatch is quite delightful, He’s real…just not real on my level. Hehehe!

23. ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED?
Nope

– Yeah, that hasn’t changed either.

24. FAVORITE CLOTHING BRAND?
I have lots of clothes from Old Navy

– I don’t have brands I really love. I do shop at Belk and Old Navy quite a lot but I don’t have any one brand I gravitate toward.

25. WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE FEMALE/MALE CELEBRITY?
Emily Deschanel/Neil Patrick Harris

– I do still love Emily and Neil…perhaps they are my TV celebrities? I love Sandra Bullock and Benedict Cumberbatch also.

To Be Continued….

All By Myself

Leave a comment Standard

I spent this past week…all by myself! My parents were out of town for the week (and weekend) and so I was left to hold down the fort; which wasn’t too hard since I’m more accustomed to being all by myself than living with people. Watson was decidedly mopey because he’s of the mindset that the more of us there are, the merrier we will be but he managed to make his way through the week without too much struggle.

Lovely – & did I mention that it rained on the Friday & Saturday before this week started?

Walking the dog in the misty Monday morning gloom….in my epic yellow loafers!

The neighborhood kids love Watson – & he returns that love with a vengeance.

Monday and Tuesday were splendidly drizzly…although I guess using the word splendidly is a bit misleading. I have visited the very drizzly Pacific Northwest and while it was beautiful in it’s own way, I would never want to live there. This week though, I’ve felt like I was living right in the midst of it with all this drizzle, drip and gloom. The only thing worth doing on Monday (and again on Tuesday…because, well…rain) was to go to the movies and so I saw Gone Girl and Dracula Untold to start off the week. Reading helped pass the time too.

Even in the rain, people were golfing…& losing golf balls right & left…

The wind blew a chair closed & this nut thought it was a seat for him. Ooh wee but he is a mess.

Tuesday night begging consequences. Being draped in the ties of my robe.

I had an epic moment on Tuesday night – I have moments like that quite a lot. I guess I should explain when I say I had an epic moment, it probably was more of an epic fail. Ha-ha! The weather was supposed to get a little wild on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning so I’d put the umbrella on the deck down and I figured that was good enough. As I was lying in bed on Tuesday night reading, I could hear the deck chairs getting blown around and finally decided I should probably get out of the warm bed and go put the chairs away on the cold, windy and damp deck. As I stepped out onto the deck in my bare feet, my robe whipping around me in the wind, I stepped on something…something that felt like a small dead animal underfoot…

You see, I’d forgotten that earlier in the day I’d given Watson some treats on the deck while the sun made a momentary appearance. He had chosen not to eat them (yes Mom – the peanut butter ones, you were right…he doesn’t like them) and so they’d gotten wet, puffed up and felt like little dead mice underfoot. I stepped down onto one of those in the dim light and wind…and had a minor flip out. I may or may not have let out a wild shriek and flailed wildly until I realized what I’d stepped on. I then tried to recover myself, get things done and get back to my bed….and stop my heart from pounding out of my chest. Oh Lord. I also realized that my neighbors are obviously unconcerned about me; I could have been being murdered…but oh well.

Wednesday morning downpour…turning the golf course into a pond.

The sun came out for a little while on Wednesday afternoon – hallelujah!

Talk about snapping a picture at the perfect moment! Ha-ha!

Homemade Mac & Cheese for supper on Thursday night!

Of course, a certain dog thought he needed to have bites of macaroni…

Friday was finally….finally absolutely gorgeous! The sun was shining, the clouds in the sky were barely what you could call wispy and there was a gentle Autumn breeze. I took advantage of the glorious day and took Watson to the Virginia State Arboretum and Long Branch Plantation…which I wrote a post about, so I won’t get into that here. Friday afternoon my friend Rachel came over to spend some time with me – we had supper and had some delicious coffee before going to the church for Ladies Game Night. I had so much fun at Ladies Game Night – we played Pictionary, Taboo and Bingo – and as I always discover, I am much more competitive than I’d like to think.

Rachel and I were on the Odd Team (not because we’re odd but because we pulled odd numbers) and the Odd Team crushed every game! We won Pictionary and Taboo with the greatest of ease and Rachel and I both got lucky in the door prize department – I went home with two goodie bags and Rachel went home with three! We slept in on Saturday before going back over to the Arboretum and Long Branch Plantation since Rachel had never been to either…and Watson got to come along again! We had a late lunch at the Hunter’s Head Tavern and Watson even got to join us there and he did so well, sitting patiently by the water bowl our waiter brought him. He; of course, got bites of bread, macaroni and fish…and absolutely loved it all.

Sitting on a bench under the pine trees on Friday….he thinks he’s human, so of course he crawled onto the bench!

The Arboretum – always so pretty!

This little guy loved riding with the windows down.

Have you ever seen a more gorgeous tree…or house?

So many leaves…& he’s interested in something else….

Game Night! I was a “winner” and Pictionary was the best!

Amelia playing Bingo with us!

The Gingko Grove at the Arboretum on Saturday. I’ve got to go back & explore even more!

Roses blooming in October? Who knew!

Enjoying lunch at the Hunter’s Head Tavern!

The weather here is getting a wee bit brisk as of late…so on Saturday night I turned on the fire in the basement so I could warm up the basement a bit before Watson went to bed. I guess he’s never really seen a fire in the fireplace before now because he was absolutely mesmerized by it! He went downstairs two or three times before it was time to get in the bed, just to take a look and check things out. I guess he didn’t want the place to burn down, ha-ha!

Hey – what is that orange stuff over there?

Sunday morning drive to church…so pretty.

Being little is hard work…& so sleeping through the sermon seemed to work best for Miss Amelia!

Gifts from the traveling parents – nice! I’ll need that sweat shirt here pretty soon!

This rotten little guy was glad to have his Poppy & Nana back.

And…that is all for now! Another week is upon us again, new adventures to be had! I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead and I’ll see you all back here next week….same time, same place! Ha-ha!

Autumn Afternoon Adventure

Leave a comment Standard

The sun came out…the sun came out…the sun came out! You can imagine me singing that with wild abandon while spinning in the midst of nature (if you’d like) because that is how I felt when I woke up this morning and finally saw some sunshine! Oh my goodness.

It has rained and rained; at least six out the past eight days have been gloomy and gray. I couldn’t resist the sunshine today though and as soon as I’d finished my lunch, I loaded Watson into his car seat and we headed about fifteen minutes up the road to the Virginia State Arboretum and then on to Long Branch Plantation. Today was just a day for being outside, so we took advantage of it!

I took tons of pictures – of course. So I thought I’d share some of them below! Enjoy!

I think his head exploded because of all the nature at his disposal – he ran around like he was on something…

The Tuleyries House on the grounds adjacent to the Arboretum

Starting our walk down the Dogwood Lane – I’ll have to come back in the Spring; I’m sure it looks brilliant!

Smile!

So much color!

Bright red berries on the trees..

Such a gorgeous walkway on an Autumn afternoon!

Watson never meets a stranger – which is certainly a good thing, I’m glad he’s friendly – and our afternoon trip was no different. As we approached the archway of the Blandy House to wander further into the Arboretum’s grounds, we saw an older gentleman seated in a chair, reading a magazine. He smiled at us and said “hey there little fellow” which immediately set Watson’s tail to wagging wildly! He gave the gentleman a moment to rub his ears and then he was off again to explore. We also passed a toddler as we wandered out onto the grounds and she happily squealed “puppy…puppy..” and Watson was nice enough to oblige her with a gentle lick on the hand before wandering off in search of squirrels. She grinned and waved at us as we headed down the hill.

Watson thinks…maybe I want to jump that fence…

Talk about a Christmas tree!

The Ephemeral Pond…

Smiling for a photo with my favorite little pup!

He thinks he is human, so of course he hopped right up on the bench to sit by me!

Gazing out from under the branches of the pine trees.

Wild strawberries? Probably not…but still neat.

Y’all – that is a real frog. Watson was mesmerized.

Flowers everywhere…

Seriously – all over the place!

These are leopard plants – & I have no clue why…

The Blandy Farm at the Virginia State Arboretum!

The Herb Garden

Lavender….

The Herb Garden made Watson go a little nuts…

So…this was supposed to be some kind of herb. I definitely thought it was a marigold!

Riding with the windows down on the loop road!

Virginia’s very own standing stones…if I touched these, would I end up in Scotland.

As close as I could get to this beautiful house…

Can I tour this please? Please?

The absolutely gorgeous mountains – I love them.

Seriously – pictures do not do this justice…so gorgeous.

Long Branch Plantation – I couldn’t resist driving over after we left the Arboretum.

I love this house. It’s gorgeous!

Some of the land around the plantation…

The mountains are amazing. Look at all the beauty.

As mentioned, Watson makes a new friend everywhere we go. As we wandered the gardens on the side of Long Branch, Watson decided he’d use the bathroom in the bushes and the gardener said (in a mocking voice) “oh no…not my plants!” I grinned at him and told him that we had our little packet of bags if he decided to do anything more severe than water the plants. He laughed at me and said “oh gosh, I’m kidding…” and then he of course begins petting Watson, which Watson just thought was grand. He must have liked us because as we pulled out of the drive later, he waved at us!

Have you ever seen such a colorful tree??

Yes – I took a picture of just the tree. Wouldn’t you?

Long Branch Plantation in all it’s glory!

I could enjoy sitting on this porch, no doubt…

Sitting in a carpet of leaves…watching some squirrels.

I love all the leaves!

Sunshine yellow leaves – so lovely!

Leaving the house.

Thoroughly worn out after the afternoon’s activities!

So – there you have it. Our afternoon of autumn adventure in and around our home! Hope you enjoyed it!
